The Northern Lights Regional Humane Society is accepting resumes for the following position.
LEAD SHELTER ATTENDANT
Full-time, 30-35 hrs/week
As an employee of NLRHS, the Lead Shelter Attendant is committed to ensuring the humane treatment of companion animals in the shelter, while complying with policies and procedures. This role is responsible for ensuring high standards of animal care are maintained while providing information to volunteers, customers and members of the public about our services.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Comfortable and experienced in handling animals
- Previous experience in an animal care environment
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Adaptable to a changing environment and ability to multi-task
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes the initiative with minimal supervision
- Experience in Microsoft Office and Excel
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and own transportation is required
- Position is physically demanding and includes heavy lifting, which requires an individual with the ability to lift sixty (60) lbs. comfortably.
- Must be able to restrain animals up to one hundred (100) lbs.
- Possess a love of animals, an enthusiastic personality, and a strong sense of professionalism.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Wash dishes/litter pans and replenish pet supplies, food & litter
- Maintain the animal food preparation and kitchen area including restocking & cleaning
- Follow cleaning procedures
- Ensure kennels, runs, and cages (indoor and outdoor) are kept clean and free of debris and excrement
- Carry out scheduled animal feeding, watering, bathing and grooming
- Watch animals and report unusual behaviour and health concerns
- Support volunteers that work with animals and provide training where necessary
- Complete all required forms & reports as necessary
- Maintains professional and courteous relationships with volunteers and the public
- Maintains safe working practices at all times
- Perform other duties as required.

SUMMER ANIMAL CARE ATTENDANT
30 HRS/Week. Wage: $15.00/hr
This position is being advertised under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) initiative. To be eligible for this position, you must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age on the start date of the job.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Individuals will participate in the day to day animal care and operational practices of an Animal Shelter.
- Responsible for all duties related to the care of animals (cleaning of the holding areas, assuring that animals receive food and water, basic grooming).
- Cleans all equipment and work areas to maintain the highest standard of cleanliness and sanitation. Follows health and safety regulations and protocols.
- Maintain accurate records for animal inventory, health, medications, treatments, procedures and behaviour history.
In addition to the duties listed above, the NLRHS expects the following of each employee: adheres to policies and procedures; performs duties as workload necessitates; communicates regularly with supervisor; and completes other duties as assigned. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and own transportation is considered asset.
