SHELTER ATTENDANT – Part-time, 12-20 hrs/week
As an employee of NLRHS, the par-time Shelter Attendant is committed to ensuring the humane treatment of companion animals in the shelter, while complying with policies and procedures. This role is responsible for ensuring high standards of animal care are maintained while providing information to volunteers, customers and members of the public about our services.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Comfortable and experienced handling animals
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Adaptable to a changing environment and ability to multi-task
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes the initiative with minimal supervision
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and own transportation is required
- Position is physically demanding and includes heavy lifting, which requires an individual with the ability to lift sixty (60) lbs. comfortably.
- Must be able to restrain animals up to one hundred and twenty (120) lbs.
- Possess a love of animals, an enthusiastic personality, and a strong sense of professionalism.
- Previous experience in an animal care environment is an asset
- Experience in Microsoft Office and Excel an asset
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Wash dishes/litter pans and replenish pet supplies, food & litter
- Maintain the animal food preparation and kitchen area including restocking & cleaning
- Follow cleaning procedures
- Ensure kennels, runs, and cages (indoor and outdoor) are kept clean and free of debris and excrement • Carry out scheduled animal feeding, watering, bathing and grooming
- Watch animals and report unusual behaviour and health concerns
- Maintains professional and courteous relationships with volunteers and the public
- Maintains safe working practices at all times
- Perform other duties as required.

KENNEL ATTENDANT – Part-Time Position
We are looking to hire one individual who is available 2-3 evenings during the week, and some weekends to cover shifts when needed. Evenings and weekends are a must. Shifts are on average 1-2 hours depending on the amount of animals in our care. Schedule will be based on availability and organizational need to cover kennel shifts.
If you love and enjoy working with animals, this might be the job for you!
Applicant must be a team player who will participate in all animal care duties including feeding and making sure all animals have water available, washing dishes, cleaning and sanitizing indoor kennels and outdoor runs, which includes the removal of feces, vomit, and/or urine, administering medications when needed, as well as other assigned duties.
Applicant must be able to work in a fast paced environment, care deeply about animals, have patience while handling all animals, adopt to their needs and personalities and have the highest animal care standards.
